School for the Blind - I was tasked with teaching art to children who were visually impaired, but had to really educate myself on how I could most effectively communicate in a different way than societal norm. What I realized was that I could use sounds and tactile materials. I would read a description of an object to them, then give them a sculpture of the object to feel. This way, the kids would hopefully gain a deeper understanding of whatever concept we talked about.
School for the Deaf - Inspired by my sister’s hearing impairment, I was motivated to help other children in my city. The Nanjing School for the Deaf has a class of students who want to pursue in art in their college, and they were required to practice artmaking. I want my class to be relaxing, where they can just play, explore, and bond with fellow classmates. I successfully created an environment where everyone felt safe to express themselves and not be bogged down by systematic pressures. I was inspired by their simple and sincere communication style.
School Mural - I was motivated to create a dragon mural while running around my school’s playground and looking at the white walls. I led my club members to create this dragon mural to boost pride and energy in amongst students. We first drew small sketches on paper and then gridded it to be able to accurately transfer onto the wall. The process of painting this mural took five months to finish this 98ft mural.
